Description:
Bulgarian immigrant, Costa D. Nesteroff discusses a lifetime of migrant mining, traveling to various locations in the United States, but dominantly mining in Huerfano County, Colorado. Colorado Fuel and Iron (CF&I) was the main employer for Nesteroff, who tells of entering a mine site during a strike and seeing the "scabs" (non-union workers brought in to do the mining in place of the miners on strike). He claims to have been shot in the leg by an unknown shooter at the mine, having the bullets removed by a doctor. He discusses key figures and organizations during the labor movement, the United Mine Workers of America, John Mitchell, Mother Jones, and John D. Rockefeller. Nesteroff also mentions that he spent five years in Pearl Harbor, doing military service.
