UC Boulder Collections

The Roger G. Barry Glacier Photographs Collection (a subset of the Roger G. Barry glaciology collection) consists of over 25,000 photographs of glaciers collected by the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) in Boulder, Colorado and now held by the CU Boulder Libraries’ Rare & Distinctive Collections. The photographs were taken by air and ground, mostly in the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Greenland, and date from the 1850s to the 2000s. These images constitute an important historical record, as well as a data collection of interest to those studying the response of glaciers to climate change. NSIDC also provides access to digital copies of these photographs on their Glacier Photographs website, which contains additional photographs that NSIDC has added to that collection since 2019. For access to the full collection at NSIDC and how to cite it, please see Glacier Photograph Collection, Version 1. When sharing or citing the Roger G. Barry Glacier Photographs Collection on the CU Digital Library, please include the permanent address: https://doi.org/10.26040/k237-e673. This digital collection was generously supported by funding from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR).
