Abstract:
Recorded lecture #1 provided by Dr. Peter Ossorio from his advanced personality course titled Personality and Personality Theories. During this lecture he talks about the fundamentals of personality.
Note:
00:00:00 Dr. Peter Ossorio begins by mentioning that this recording is of the second graduate personality course and C. J. Peek will be assisting him with the recordings from the audience. 00:01:20 Ossorio begins the lecture. He talks about the theory and fundamentals of personality. He states there are disagreements in the field about the fundamentals of personality. 00:04:30 Ossorio states that the approach to the study of personality in the course will center around the question, “What enables people to disagree in the ways that they normally do?” 00:07:13 Ossorio talks about the concepts people could share. 00:12:00 Ossorio talks about his method of presenting the content in the class, as well as the difference between making statements and lecturing. 00:16:30 Ossorio mentions the course content will now face the question “What does the study of personality consist of?” He continues to talk about the structure of fundamental statements. 00:20:20 Ossorio states that the natural starting point for the study of people and behavior is definitions, but definitions do not always include everything. Ossorio continues to mention that definitions are by no means fundamental. 00:25:15 Ossorio talks about alternatives in a situation where one would like a definition, that being, paired-in-case formulation and parametric analysis. Ossorio talks about transformations related to paired-in-case formulation. 00:38:24 Ossorio talks in detail about parametric analysis. He displays a diagram of colors from an introduction to psychology textbook as an example. 00:43:35 Ossorio summarizes paired-in-case formulation and parametric analysis. End of recording.
