Abstract:
Title from film container. Reel contains footage of a woman of color in a black leotard, dancing or posing in a garden. She places a mirrored sun on a tree and removes a long piece of shiny fabric, which she wraps around herself in various ways. Possibly a depiction of the story of Eve.
Note:
00:00 Film begins with a view of leaves and fruit from a tree. Silver, shiny fabric is wrapped around the branches and trunk of the tree and vaguely resembles a snake or vine in the tree; 00:28 A woman dressed in all black clothing lays in the grass outside. She sits up and fidgets with bark from the ground; 01:20 The woman walks towards the tree with the fabric in it. At first, she reacts in disgust to the wrapped piece of fabric, which now has a small mirror resembling a sun on it. Her mood suddenly seems to change as she walks backs to the fabric in the tree and shows intimacy towards it; 03:37 The woman takes the fabric from the tree and wraps it around her neck and body. She proceeds to unravel the fabric and drape it over her head and body like a cape or shawl. She continues to perform an interpretive dance with the fabric; 06:51 The woman’s expression quickly changes from intimacy to pain; 07:02 The scene changes to show the woman standing again and holding the fabric over her head and draped around her body while she dances with the shiny fabric; 07:50 Scene changes to show the fabric wrapped around the tree again with the sun shaped mirror. Her eye is reflected in the center of the mirror. Film ends.
