The Neutra Colony is the closest Neutra came to realizing the modern townscape he envisioned, set in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Students of architecture and architecture aficionados worldwide make pilgrimages to Silver Lake, to see the work of modernist architects, including Richard Neutra, Rudolf M. Schindler, Gregory Ain, John Lautner, and others. Neutra left his native Austria and then left Chicago so he could be in California, specifically Silver Lake. His own home and his office are part of the area known informally as the Neutra Colony, where more than ten structures he designed are located.
