Title:
"But What Are We? Spritual Identities of Interfaith Families" Rabbi Tirzah Firestone; "Why Double Vision is a Good Thing" Rev. Dr. Jay Rock
Description:
Rabbi Tirza Firestone is introduced and begins to tell her story of living in an interfaith family. She discusses the positives and negatives for children brought up with a single, dual or no religion. She says there are no formulas for deciding the best scenario, and maintains that a child should be given a tradition so they can later shun the label and engage in “god wrestling.” She says we need to recover our roots and our lost layers of identity. Children need to know who they are, their lineage and the customs of their ancestors. This helps them to form a spiritual identity, context and appreciation of the world. She discusses how to show children rituals that bind the family and cultivate their spirit roots. She gives examples of impromptu praying, giving thanks, telling stories, and family projects.

Rev. Jay Rock is introduced. He tells his story of growing up in an interfaith family. He maintains that accepting dual heritages and cultures does not need to lead to confusion, but can contribute to a healthy development and sharpened view of the world.
