A discussion at Chatauqua in Boulder, CO June 19, 2004 between Ibrahim Kazerrooni and Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi on perspectives of peace. Ibrahim and Reb Zalman light a candle and meet in friendship. Both make statements of faith in Yiddish and Arabic. The Rabbi points out that they both have the same religious, cultural, and social issues. He states there is one God-- true oneness. Ibrahim says we cannot change the issues in the Middle Ease but we can build bridges here, by initiating dialog. We cannot have peace if there is disequilibrium—as long as we harbor hate, dislike or bigotry, one cannot become an ambassador for peace. Once we achieve peace within ourselves we can translate it to the environment around us. We are all cousins of different descendants. Reb Zalman concurs and elaborates on his statement—and they both believe that creating peace here may have an effect globally.
