This is the first of four parts of an interview with Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi regarding his use of psychedelics. He is being interviewed by a couple individuals. The interview begins with Zalman providing a brief history of his life. He then notes reading Aldous Huxley's Doors of Perception and the impact it had on him. At that point he began to look for the opportunity to try mescaline or other hallucinogens. He was made aware of Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert (Ram Dass) by a colleague in Manitoba. He goes on to relate a story about working at a Jewish camp which was followed shortly thereafter by his first experience with hallucinogens--provided by Timothy Leary. Zalman goes on to discuss the effects of his ingestion of psychedelics which include: allowing for a non-fixed perception of reality and the necessity for preparation and responsibility that go with taking psychedelics. The video ends with the interviewers noting the tape needs to be changed.
