Latin Bible, Old Testament (Psalm 144: 21 - Proverbs 1: 1). Paris, c. 1250-75. 232 x 157 mm. Parchment. Single leaf. Double column; each column 162 x 48 mm.; 51 lines to a column; ruled and bounded in plummet. Historiated P on verso, depicting Solomon instructing his son Rehoboam, on a blue frame with a diapered pattern of squares and diamonds in light blue and rust. Large illuminated J on verso and other smaller illumi¬nated initials on recto.

Provenance: Attributed to the atelier of the Dominican Painter (on whom see Branner, pp. 118-22). A leaf from a MS formerly in the collection of Sir Chester Beatty, his W. MS 116; see Illuminated Manuscripts from the Library of Sir Chester Beatty (Dublin, 1955), no. 10; sold Sotheby's, 3 December 1968, lot 14 when it comprised 187 (out of an original 549) leaves and subsequently broken up.
