a. English---a low brimmed hat without a crown. A crown is fashioned by a scarf drawn up thru the brim and draped around the shoulders. About [1000-1300]. b. English---a top-like hat but belled at the top, decorated with a gold clip. c. English---a gentleman of rank with a rolled brim, crown low and scarf draped around brim and falling over the shoulders.
