The construction of the chair is a vinyl bag with zipper filled with expanded polystyrene beads. Manufactured by Zanotta (still in production). In an interview, Piero Gatti said that in seeking an ergonomic solution that would mold to the body, they thought of sacks stuffed with chestnut leaves used by peasants in Italy. They searched for filler materials and considered a range, including ping pong balls, before they found polystyrene beads which were being used in the construction industry at the time.
